The CEOs of leading crypto exchanges, Coinbase and Gemini, believe that Bitcoin may be the only cryptocurrency suitable to serve as a US reserve asset.

Tyler Winklevoss of Gemini expressed this view in a March 3 post on X, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement about establishing a Crypto Strategic Reserve. Trump mentioned that the reserve would include Solana, Cardano, and XRP, alongside Bitcoin and Ether.

Winklevoss stated that while he holds no bias against these coins, he believes they do not qualify as a US reserve asset.

“Many of these assets are tradable on Gemini and meet our stringent listing criteria, but the standards for a Strategic Reserve are different. An asset must be hard money, a proven store of value, similar to gold,” he explained.

Brian Armstrong of Coinbase echoed this sentiment, suggesting that “Bitcoin would likely be the best option,” citing its simplicity and alignment as a clear gold successor.
