SEC Includes Crypto in its Examination Priorities for 2025
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has once again included cryptocurrency assets as part of its 2025 examination priorities, after the previous year saw no significant participants registering with the Commission.
This decision highlights the SEC’s continued interest in the cryptocurrency industry, particularly in monitoring investments and services related to cryptos.
Even though there were no major crypto companies formally registering with the agency, the SEC has been involved with certain assets, particularly Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), through exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
The agency’s role in regulating these ETFs is one of the few instances where it has taken a regulatory approach rather than its usual enforcement actions in the crypto space.
The SEC’s 2025 examination priorities aim to ensure that companies involved in crypto assets adhere to standards of conduct and transparency.
The examinations will likely target firms offering services tied to Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, as well as other products related to crypto assets.
