First Verified ZK-proof Arrives to Bitcoin Mainnet
On July 24, the Bitcoin rollups protocol, BitcoinOS (BOS), successfully validated the first zero-knowledge (ZK) proof on the blockchain’s mainnet.
This significant milestone opens up possibilities for increased functionality and scalability on the Bitcoin mainnet without requiring any changes to its base layer.
Edan Yago, co-founder of BOS, stated that this development marks a new era where Bitcoin is not just seen as a digital form of gold, but also an operating system and platform for decentralized applications.
Furthermore, Yago believes that this development poses a threat to other layer-1 projects like Ethereum and Solana, as they can no longer guarantee safety from competition from Bitcoin.
The technology behind the mainnet verification is BOS’s BitSNARK, a ZK Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge (zk-SNARK) verification software library.
