Kraken Obtains a License from Dutch’s Regulator

Kraken has obtained its fourth license in Europe, enabling its compliance services to be accessible in the Netherlands. This development was announced on Feb. 8 and comes after the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) granted Kraken a virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration.

This license allows Kraken to offer exchange and transfer services for virtual assets, as well as custody and wallet services. Compliance with VASP regulations, such as those outlined in the regulation on Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA), is required for entities offering digital asset services within the European Union.

These regulations include measures to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as transparency in disclosing client information. Kraken has been expanding its presence in Europe, as it already holds VASP licenses in Spain, Italy, and Ireland.

Its services are also available in Belgium through a licensed subsidiary. In a statement, Kraken highlighted the Netherlands’ strong startup and technology sector, as well as its high crypto adoption rate of around 20%.
