Hester Peirce: SEC’s Crypto Policy Might Change
In an interview with Cointelegraph, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has acknowledged that the agency’s current stance on the crypto industry may see changes.
Peirce has shared that she was surprised by how slow the Commission has been in finding solutions for the regulatory framework of digital assets since she joined in 2018.
However, she has also noted that there are knowledgeable employees within the SEC who are well-versed in cryptocurrency, and this has improved since she first joined.
Peirce has commented that the current state of implementing rules for the industry cannot be compared to countries such as Switzerland and Singapore.
The SEC, under the leadership of Gary Gensler, has faced criticism for its enforcement-focused approach to regulating cryptocurrencies.
Currently, the department is involved in civil litigation against major cryptocurrency exchanges such as Coinbase, Binance, and Ripple.
