US and German Authorities Seize Servers of Crypto Mixer ChipMixer

The Europol has reported that German and US authorities, with the support of Belgium, Poland and Switzerland, have disabled the infrastructure of cryptocurrency mixer ChipMixer. This has resulted in the seizure of 1909.4 BTC, which is valued at €44.2 million ($46.3 million).

ChipMixer’s software was used to hide funds on the blockchain, which made it a popular tool for cybercriminals to launder money.

Additionally, the authorities have confiscated four servers that held a total of 7 TB of data. Estimates from Europol show that the platform has been used to launder over 152,000 BTC (amounting to about $2.88 billion).

The funds are believed to be related to darknet services, ransomware, drug, and weapons trafficking. Information obtained from the closure of Hydra revealed connections between ChipMixer and the darknet marketplace.
