Paul Atkins, chosen by President Trump to head the SEC, has been confirmed by the Senate with a largely party-line vote.

All 52 Republicans supported Atkins, a pro-crypto veteran prioritizing digital asset policy reform, while 44 Democrats opposed.

Atkins will succeed former SEC Chair Gary Gensler, who, under the Biden administration, was criticized by crypto leaders for investigating or suing nearly every major company in the industry for alleged securities law violations.

The new SEC chair is expected to take a significantly different approach to cryptocurrency.
