The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved options trading linked to a spot Ether (ETH) exchange-traded fund (ETF).
The SEC’s approval, granted on April 9, 2025, followed a filing by Nasdaq ISE from July 2025, proposing options trading for the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), owned by BlackRock.
Options trading attracts both individual and institutional investors as it allows risk hedging and ownership of larger asset shares with minimal investment, providing ETH exposure effectively. Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart anticipated the approval.
The SEC approved options trading exclusively for BlackRock’s ETHA, citing BlackRock’s strong regulatory track record.
