Trump Pardons Silk Road Creator Ross Ulbricht
US President Donald Trump announced that he has signed a full and unrestricted pardon for Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road – the notorious dark web marketplace for illegal drugs.
Ulbricht was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2015 for his role in a conspiracy involving narcotics and money laundering.
In his post on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared that he personally called Ulbricht’s mother to inform her of the pardon.
The Silk Road operated using Bitcoin as currency and also sold other illicit items such as hacking tools and stolen passports. Ulbricht was arrested in 2013 and his website was shut down by authorities.
Trump also criticized those who were involved in Ulbricht’s conviction, claiming that they were also involved in using government power against him.
