OKX Warns Users of Fake Firefox Plugin
OKX has issued a warning about fraudulent browser extensions for OKX that have appeared in the Firefox plugin store. These extensions add third-party functions to the browser but have not been released by OKX.
Users who have mistakenly downloaded the extension are advised to transfer any funds in connected wallets. OKX has contacted Firefox to have the extensions removed and reminds users not to download any software specific to OKX from third parties.
It is important to note that malicious browser extensions can be used to steal sensitive information and funds. This was a major issue in the cryptocurrency world in 2024, with phishing scams being the main cause of crypto losses according to CertiK.
Their recent report, Hack3d: The Web3 Security Report 2024, highlighted the biggest cybersecurity threats to digital assets in 2024. The report reveals that in 296 attack campaigns, phishing scams resulted in over $1 billion in losses for cryptocurrency users, representing a 21% increase from the previous year.
Therefore, it is crucial for users to be cautious when downloading extensions or software related to cryptocurrency and to only trust official sources.
