Galaxy Digital’s research division predicts that the US government will not purchase any Bitcoin in 2025, but will instead hold onto its existing supply.

The head of research, Alex Thorn, stated that discussions about a Bitcoin reserve policy will continue, but in the meantime, the government will focus on building a stockpile of Bitcoin.

According to Thorn, there may be some movement within government departments to explore the idea of a larger Bitcoin reserve policy.

Currently, the US government holds 183,850 BTC, valued at approximately $17.36 billion, across various known addresses.

If passed, Senator Cynthia Lummis’ proposed Bitcoin Act 2024 would allow the US government to buy 200,000 BTC annually over five years, accumulating 1 million Bitcoin in total, which would be held for at least 20 years.
