The new HBO documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” suggests that Peter Todd, an early Bitcoin developer, is the true identity behind Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.

However, Todd quickly denied this claim. The nearly two-hour documentary, which claims to uncover one of the internet’s greatest mysteries, features interviews with various individuals and examines different clues before pointing towards Todd as the possible Satoshi Nakamoto.

In some exchanges towards the end of the film, Todd seems to play with the director, Cullen Hoback, even stating that he is Nakamoto before refuting this in other instances.

Once the documentary’s big reveal was made known, there was significant backlash online, with many crypto enthusiasts criticizing the film’s conclusions. “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” directed by Hoback, premiered on HBO at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Hoback is also known for directing “Q: Into the Storm,” an HBO docu-series that exposed the individuals behind the QAnon conspiracy theory.
