Mt. Gox Transfers $2.5B in Bitcoin to an Unknown Address
The now-defunct crypto exchange Mt. Gox has recently transferred a total of 37,477 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $2.5 billion, to an unknown wallet address. This transfer was recorded by blockchain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence at 4:53 am UTC on July 24.
Of this amount, 5,106 BTC were subsequently transferred to a separate cold wallet owned by Mt. Gox.
This transaction follows a previous one made just a day prior, in which the exchange moved $2.8 billion worth of BTC to various wallets, including $340 million sent to four wallets connected to Bitstamp, one of the exchanges involved in the return of funds to Mt. Gox creditors.
As of now, CryptoQuant reports that only about 40% of the Bitcoin owed to Mt. Gox creditors has been distributed, leaving approximately $5.6 billion yet to be returned.
