CoinStats: Hacker Stole $2.2M in Crypto Last Month
Additional details about the security incident that occurred in June have been released by CoinStats, a popular app for tracking cryptocurrencies.
The company reported that a sophisticated attacker, potentially affiliated with a nation-state, gained access to 1,590 private keys of CoinStats wallets, resulting in the theft of approximately $2.2 million worth of cryptocurrency.
CoinStats believes that the Lazarus Group or another similarly supported hacking group is responsible for the attack.
The attacker was able to compromise multiple services related to CoinStats’ storage of private keys, including services outside of the platform.
The company is currently working with experts such as ZachXBT and Taylor Monahan to trace the stolen funds, and has also reported the incident to law enforcement.
