zkSNACKs CEO: Bitcoin Privacy Will Survive After CoinJoin’s Shutdown
One of the key privacy-enhancing services in the Bitcoin ecosystem, provided by zkSNACKs, will soon no longer be available. The company has announced that it will discontinue its CoinJoin coordination service.
CEO Max Hillebrand has explained that the decision was made in order to comply with the latest legal and regulatory developments in the United States.
The closure of the CoinJoin service was necessary due to the lack of clarity on regulations regarding the use of privacy-enhancing tools in the cryptocurrency space.
Former NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden was among those who expressed disappointment over the discontinuation of the service. Hillebrand emphasized that while Bitcoin privacy will continue to exist, the ecosystem is losing an important service that allowed for increased privacy through the coinjoin mechanism.
