Court Sentences OneCoin Lawyer to 10 Years in Prison
A federal judge has sentenced an attorney involved in the OneCoin cryptocurrency scam to 10 years in prison after a hearing on January 25, as reported by Inner City Press.
The lawyer, Mark Scott, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and money laundering in November 2019 and has been waiting for his sentencing.
Prosecutors had requested a minimum of 17 years, while Scott’s defense team had asked for only five. He expressed remorse for the victims of OneCoin before the judge delivered his sentence.
Scott had been working with the OneCoin scheme by laundering funds under the direction of co-founder Ruja Ignatova, also known as “Cryptoqueen,” who has been on the run since the scheme was uncovered.
