Vitalik Buterin Wants to Revive Cypherpunk in Ethereum
According to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, the Ethereum blockchain must return to its roots and embrace the “cypherpunk” revolution.
Originally intended to be a decentralized and open platform for peer-to-peer messaging and file storage, Ethereum has recently shifted towards more financial-focused applications.
Buterin stresses the importance of maintaining cypherpunk ideals such as decentralization, open participation, resistance to censorship, and neutrality.
He suggests that recent developments in technologies like rollups, zero-knowledge proofs, and privacy solutions could help support these ideals.
However, Buterin also acknowledges that there are projects within the crypto space that do not prioritize these goals. He calls for a revival of the original vision for Ethereum as a truly decentralized and censorship-resistant platform.
