German airline Lufthansa has created the Uptrip loyalty program based on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Polygon network.

Through the app developed collaboratively by the Lufthansa Innovation Hub and the Miles & More platform, users can scan their boarding passes and receive NFTs which are stored in crypto wallets.

Customers are then able to exchange the NFTs for services such as access to an airport lounge, VIP treatment, or discounts.

According to the statement, the app combines “elements of gaming and attractive rewards with testing innovative technologies.”

The concept of Uptrip being a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) allows user feedback and advancements to continually expand its capabilities.

Planned updates include launching their own marketplace, since users currently rely on third-party platforms, and an increase in the available rewards. The initiative has already received over 20,000 customers and more than 200,000 NFTs according to the press release.
