US Republican presidential candidate and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has declared that if he were to win the election, he would be willing to take part of his salary in Bitcoin.

Suarez has been a big proponent of digital currency ever since early 2021 when he allowed Miami residents to pay taxes in Bitcoins.

During a press conference, he made known that part of his salary as mayor is already being paid to him in the form of cryptocurrency, and he would like to keep this arrangement if he is elected President of the United States.

The politician believes using Bitcoin could provide Americans with financial freedom as the American monetary system has become politicized, and only a decentralized currency like Bitcoin can protect people’s capital.

Other presidential candidates have also shown support for cryptocurrency, including Robert Kennedy, who has accepted donations in Bitcoin and was the first of the candidates to do so.
