Local media has reported, backed by South Korean intelligence data, that during the first half of 2023, North Korean hackers used a variety of exploits to steal a total of $180 million in different cryptocurrencies.

The Lazarus Group, suspecting of participating in numerous hacks, is considered one of the most dangerous organizations.

Reportedly, they are responsible for the July theft of $37 million from the CoinsPaid payment service, and for attacks on crypto platforms such as Ronin sidechain, Atomic Wallet, Alphapo, and Horizon Cross-chain bridge.

It is believed that the overall damage inflicted on the crypto industry by the North Korean cyber criminals is estimated to be around $3 billion, with half of that total being used to fund missile programs.
