Crypto Miner Riot Says NYT Article About Mining is Politically Motivated
Riot, the largest public crypto miner in North America, has denounced The New York Times (NYT) Bitcoin mining article, “The Real Costs of the Bitcoin Digital Race,” as “full of distortions and outright lies,” claiming the publication decided to publish the article despite knowing its information to be false and misleading.
Riot has argued that the article wrongly blamed mining for an “insatiable appetite” for electricity consumption, influencing tariff increases, unjustified receipt of payments for outages, and the use of energy sources with a carbon footprint, while ignoring the factual data and information that Riot previously provided.
The company has further stated that contrary to the journalists’ claims, it creates jobs and contributes to the development of the economies of local communities, with its Milam County, Texas facility being the largest employer and taxpayer.
