South Korea Resident is Sentenced to Prison for Metaverse Harassment

A 30-year-old resident in South Korea has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually harassing minors in an unnamed “popular” metaverse.

According to local media, the defendant registered on a Korean virtual reality platforms. From December 2021 to March 2022, he interacted with junior and high school students through his character.

The man gave gifts to minors, in return for which he asked to send nude photographs. The police have also found obscene messages on his computer.

The defendant has pleaded guilty. The court has taken into account sexual material was neither distributed nor used for profit.
