Gary Gensler Says SEC is Developing Ways to Register Digital Assets as Securities
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is continuously working to regulate and register cryptocurrency platforms, the head of the regulator, Gary Gensler, has said.
He has urged employees to work with crypto exchanges by analogy with how stock exchanges are regulated.
Gensler has noted the SEC is working on ways to register some digital assets as securities. He has said:
“There is no reason to treat the cryptocurrency market differently just because a different technology is being used.”
The regulator is also looking into ways to address potential conflicts of interest when crypto platforms simultaneously act as market makers.
