El Salvador’s President Wants to Make Bitcoin Legal Tender
Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, said on Saturday on the Bitcoin 2021 conference held in Miami, Florida, that he wants to make BTC legal tender in the country.
To do so, Bukele has said the plans to submit a legislative approval. In particular, he said on Twitter:
“We hope that this decision will be just the beginning in providing a space where some of the leading innovators can reimagine the future of finance, potentially helping billions around the world.”
Following the announcement, he also changed his profile picture on Twitter to display a photo of him with laser eyes, a meme usually used by crypto enthusiasts.
According to sources, BTC startup Strike is collaborating with the authorities of the country to make this possible.
